Students face many challenges when undertaking tertiary education, one of which is the greater need for self-reliance and ability to access information. The aim of this site is to provide both the mentor and mentoree with a reference to some general information to assist you to help one another.
The peer mentoring program is designed to help first year students and more experienced students connect, share advice and support. The First Year Mentors' Program is run for the first six weeks of semester one.
The aims of the program are to support new students by:
- assisting your transition into university
- providing a welcoming and inclusive environment
- creating a support network
- referring you to relevant services
The program also aims to develop student mentors with:
- Communication, leadership and interpersonal skills
- Cultural sensitivity, empathy and tolerance towards others
- Skills relevant to employment
As a mentor you will have the opportunity to share valuable knowledge, with new students, that you have gained as a result of your own student experience, as well as developing skills that you can use in other social and profession settings.
